You can select from several methods in which to fast - a full fast, Daniel Fast, 3-day Fast and Partial Fast.

Full Fast - Drink only liquids, primarily water, fruit and vegetable juices. You establish the number of days.

Daniel Fast - A 21 day fast. Eat no meat, no sweets, dairy products or leavened bread.  Eat fruits and vegetables throughout the fast.  Variations of this fast allow participants to eat seafood during the final week.

3 Day Fast - This fast can be a full fast, a Daniel Fast, or give up at least one item of significance during this 3 day period.  It is important to be spiritually focused during this period.  Many people use this approach during retreats.

Partial Fast - This fast is done during a specific hour of the day; usually at preselected dates.  Example: Fasting on Wednesdays from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Remember to always consult with your physician prior to embarking on a fast.  Consider your specific health requirements. Fasting can be an excellent way to begin better eating habits.  Be willing to exercise, drink lots of water and get more rest, so your body can begin adjusting to your new caloric intake. Most importantly remember that fasting without prayer does not work.  Prayer is the key component of this spiritual activity.

Quiet Time:

During this season, commit to spending more time in the Word of God and in prayer.  Decide that you will get up earlier or stay up later, in order to spend time with the Lord.  Early morning prayer and meditation is an excellent way to strengthen your walk, set the tone for the day, and hear how God is leading you in your life.

Secular Activities

Decide which social and recreational activities need to be sidelined during this season. Frequently, a break from TV and Internet influences can open up opportunities to reflect on important aspects of your life. In addition, it gives you more time to spend with family and friends, building relationships and strengthening bonds.  Consider turning the TV off after a certain time in the evening or restrict TV watching when eating together as a family.  Check-in with your loved ones and see what you are missing.
