  Title: A NEW ME!

Scripture LessonEphesians 4: 17 -32

Essential Principle:  Christians must discard the old behavior (old self) of worldly pleasures and ways.  Replace the old ways with a new man/woman in Christ, with continuously renewed characteristics like Christ.

What is keeping you from discarding the old self?  Is it fear?  Is it it a lack of faith?  Could it be that our transformation is slow because we have completely submitted to the Lord?  Whatever the reason, God desires for all of his children to live a new life, full of joy, peace and prosperity.  Occasionally, we will be challenged with the trials of this world.  But if we allow the Lord to fully take control, we no longer need to try to fix it on our own.  God is able to move heal our bodies when the doctors can't.  God can deliver us from debt and lack, when the economy is still depressed.  God can work out any situation.  But we have to be willing to discard our old ways, and clothe ourselves in the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Here is a list of behavior that Christians discard as we clothe ourselves in the blood of Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit. (Eph. 4: 25-32).

  1. Lying – (Eph. 4:25)
  2. Anger – (vs. 26)
  3. Influence by Satan – (vs. 27)
  4. Stealing (vs. 28)
  5. Speaking dishonorably (vs. 29)
  6. Grieving the Holy Spirit (vs. 30)
  7. Malice (vs. 31)

 Ask yourself these questions:

·        How does vs. 32 provide the foundation for living a new life?

·        Why is vanity one of the root causes for falling into temptation and sin? How does our western society contribute to this problem?

Take time to meditate on this scripture and put this verse into your heart.

Memory verses:  Write it, Recite it, Try it!

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only want is helpful in building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Ephesians 4: 29 (NIV)
